The Kent UCC Chancel Choir is well known in this area for its musical excellence, and it is one of the church’s strongest fellowship groups. Our adult Chancel Choir (open to ages high school and older) sings at our Sunday service three times a month starting in September and ending in late May. We sing music in varied genres and styles; our repertoire ranges from spirituals to classical selections that enrich the worship experience for all members of the congregation. Anyone who has a love for singing and praising God through music is welcome to join. Based on the famous service from King's College in Cambridge, England, the Chancel Choir offers a “Nine Lessons and Carols” service every Christmas, which has become a favorite Kent UCC tradition. The choir also collaborates with other local church and school choirs and chamber orchestras to sing longer works. Rehearsals are Thursday evenings from 7:30–9:00 pm in the Choir Room.
The Handbell Choir has a long and rich history at Kent UCC. Directed by Leslie Madden, the handbell choir offers its talents in worship 3–4 times each semester, including Christmas Eve and Easter and other high holy days in the Christian tradition. They rehearse every Sunday after worship in the choir room. All are welcome to join the handbell choir, whether you know music or not!
We believe in an embodied faith. Kent UCC has a beautiful tradition of liturgical dance to express our faith and enhance our worship experience. All members of the congregation, regardless of age or ability, are invited to dance. Rehearsals are scheduled according to worship participation, so a long-term commitment is generally not needed. Jaime Baughman directs and choreographs our liturgical dance program.
Our Children’s Worship Team is open to all children in preschool through the 7th grade. After participating in Sunday school classes during the 10:00 am worship service, all children meet together with the music and arts teacher to worship through arts related activities such as singing, movement, acting, or playing instruments. Highlights include a Christmas pageant, monthly worship participation, and solo or small group opportunities. Children of all ages through middle school are welcome!
