What We Believe

Our Core Values

As a family of faith, we are grounded in our core values:

To be a community where our lives, hopes, and sorrows may be shared in trust

To seek and build upon the love of God alive within each of us, and all people

To practice forgiveness, provide encouragement, and accept support

To join together in exploration of our meaning and purpose as children of God

To welcome all people to join us in an open and affirming and accessible to all community of faith

To celebrate and preserve the beauty of nature and all that is God’s creation

To respond to God with the offering of ourselves and our resources to promote God’s justice, mercy, and peace in our world

Our Vision

We are a beloved community where everyone is celebrated as God made us and where all of creation flourishes in the compassion, healing, justice and love of Christ.

Our Mission

Enlivened by the grace of Jesus Christ and empowered by the Holy Spirit, Kent United Church of Christ does justice, embraces faithful love, and walks humbly with our God to serve and transform lives, our community and the world. (Micah 6:8)

Our Denomination

We are proud to be a part of the United Church of Christ denomination, a uniting church as well as a united church. We believe in a God who still speaks, that there is yet more light and truth to break forth from God’s Holy Word. For this reason, we often use a comma to symbolize our belief in a “Stillspeaking God.” Or, as comedienne Gracie Allen put it, “Never place a period where God has placed a comma” for God is still speaking,

Our Calling

The calling of the United Church of Christ, and its challenge is:

• To proclaim in word and action the Gospel of Jesus Christ

• To work for reconciliation and the unity of the broken body of Christ

• To seek justice and liberation for all
