J-Walkers, named for following in Jesus’ footsteps and also for living a countercultural faith, meets after worship twice a month from 11:15 am–12:45 pm. Youth who are in 6th–8th grades are welcome to participate in fun, faith, and fellowship activities. In 2018, the J-Walkers led Kent United Church of Christ in becoming an “Accessible to All” (A2A) congregation in the United Church of Christ. They help set tables and prepare the meal for the third Sunday Community Outreach Meal, and participate in service projects with United Youth Force (UYF) in the fall and spring.
The United Youth Force (UYF) is a ministry with and for high school students. It is open to anyone in that age group! We meet each Sunday from 4:00–6:00 pm during the school year to participate in a diverse array of activities, including service, fellowship, and faith education. The group emphasizes the importance of relationships—to one another, to the church, to the community, and to the Divine—as well as service. We take seriously our call to serve God, one another, and our community. At the beginning of each school year, UYF participates in an opening lock-in, and a winter retreat each January.
In August 2012, UYF began a third Sunday Community Outreach Meal, which serves a hot meal to members of the Kent community. The meal now involves all generations of the church to help cook, serve, and clean up the meal each month.
